Special thanks to John Grier for sharing the photos below of Tex Ritter's trusty steed White Flash. John writes:

"... some photos taken about 1954 of White Flash, the horse owned and ridden by Tex Ritter. The photos were taken at the home of Johnny Western in Northfield, Minnesota. Northfield is home to the Defeat of Jesse James Celebration. Tex served as Grand Marshall for the parade. He brought White Flash and the trainer of the horse. Johnny's folks owned a small place just outside of Northfield and White Flash was boarded there. As a close family friend, my family was invited to visit and see White Flash and meet Tex. The photos show Johnny Western, Johnny's sister Teddy, and the trainer. I am not sure if the trainer is Glenn Randall (note: it's not Glenn Randall; see comment at the bottom of this page from Johnny Western). As a kid of 10 or 12, I was thrilled to meet one of my cowboy heroes. Thought you might enjoy the photos. Thank you for your Web site, you are helping to preserve the joy we all felt by watching our heroes each week at the movie houses. I was one of the lucky ones who just happened to be able to get closer than the screen."

Above are some crops/blowups from the photos. On the left is Johnny Western; in the center is the trainer of White Flash; on the right is a closeup of the brand on White Flash.

We did connect with Johnny Western and asked him if he could identify the trainer. Johnny replied: "The trainer for White Flash was with Tex for many years. His name was Don Taylor."
