A BRIGHT STAR in the EARLY WESTERN SKY

There are two performers associated with western films who, as just my personal preference, are so far out in front of the pack, that if the others were part of a chase posse, they would just pull up and head back to town. Not unlike the scene in THREE GODFATHERS when Ward, Hank and Ben gave up on catching Duke, Dobe and Pedro.

Harry Carey and Ben Johnson. The latter we'll save for another time and another place.

John Ford opened THREE GODFATHERS with a dedication to Harry Carey.

John Ford and John Wayne closed THE SEARCHERS with a visual homage to Harry Carey.

I rest my case.
