Above is a RIDIN' LEATHER (Universal, 1929) lobby card from Les Adams showing a henchie/baddie being pummeled by Bob Curwood. Les recalls that this guy may have turned up as a barfly henchie and floor-swamper at Monogram and PRC in the 1940s. Can anybody name this face, or provide any other film titles in which he appears? | In the above still from an unidentified silent western are Kelly Gafford and the lawman may be Walter Shumway ... or a heavier Peter Morrison. This photo is from Caroline Hughes whose great uncle was Kelly Gafford. Gafford was born on July 20, 1885 in El Paso, Texas and passed away in El Paso in 1963. Scuttlebutt is that he did bit/support roles in various silent films and may have done some stuntwork. And he may have doubled Wally Wales and other silent western heroes. About the only Gafford reference I've seen (so far) is that he portrayed an Indian in the Wally Wales' THE DESERT OF THE LOST (Lester Scott/Action Pictures, 1927).
